NTSC4NTSC 2.2
=============
Are you anoyed by programs which open their own screens but use screen
modes which you don't like?
If you have an PAL Amiga but use a NTSC workbench a lot of screens still
open in PAL (50 Hz) mode. If you are lucky to use the new AA chipset the
problem gets even worse. Nearly no screen will respect your choice for non
interlaced (dbl) display and you get interlaced displays (25/30 Hz).
NTSC4NTSC solves all these problems and does even more...
This nice litte program forces screens which are smaller than maximal NTSC
overscan to use 60Hz NTSC screenmode even on PAL Amigas. PAL sized screens
still open in 50Hz even on NTSC Amigas. So you always get the correct
refresh rate. If you use the AA chipset you can "promote" interlace
screens in order to avoid flickering. Additionally it can turn all screens
to full blown new 2.0 look.
NTSC4NTSC 2.2 has nine commandline switches: STDPAL, STDNTSC, USEAUTO,
FORCENTSC, NEWLOOK, PROMOTE, FULLPALETTE, BORDERBLANK and GFXBASE.
STDPAL and STDNTSC are mutually exclusive. They determine which screen
mode should be used for screens which request "standard" height. If you
don't specify one of them you will get a requester which asks for the
preferred screen mode for such screens. USEAUTO converts screens which are
too high for NTSC into autoscroll screens NTSC screens instead of PAL. If
a program insists on getting a PAL screen it will get one if you don't use
FORCENTSC. If you use FORCENTSC all screens will be converted to NTSC.
This option automatically sets STDNTSC and USEAUTO. NEWLOOK enables the
2.0 new look for all screnns by setting the SA_PENS tag. PROMOTE converts
all screenmodes to their "dbl" equivalents. It works only if you have OS
3.0. FULLPALETTE is useful in combination with NEWLOOK. It will ensure
that all colors of the screen will be initialized with the user's preferred
colors.
In brief:
STDPAL use PAL for standard height screens
STDNTSC use NTSC for standard height screens
USEAUTO use NTSC/AUTOSCROLL instead of PAL
FORCENTSC override scrennmode, always use NTSC
NEWLOOK get NEWLOOK screens
PROMOTE use mode promotion
FULLPALETTE initialize all colors
BORDERBLANK blanks the border around the screen
GFXBASE patches the base of graphics.library
NTSC4NTSC can be aborted with CTRL-C! But be careful: Patches never can
be removed without risk.
I suggest to add this line to S:User-Startup:
Run >NIL: <NIL: NTSC4NTSC STDNTSC NEWLOOK FULLPALETTE GFXBASE
When using AA you should of course add "PROMOTE"... Don't forget to
install all required monitors ((DBL)NTSC and (DBL)PAL).
If some programs don't work if you are using NTSC4NTSC then try to run
NTSC4Debug and send me the debug information and a detailed description of
the problem. I'll try to fix the bug.
If you need more information please write me a mail and/or take a look at
the source.
